Beginning Hospice

When to call on hospice care can be a difficult question. The patient, a family member or the patient’s physician may initiate a referral to BJC Hospice when an illness limits life expectancy to six months or less with normal disease progression. An evaluation visit can be made by the hospital Palliative Care Specialist or a BJC Hospice staff member to discuss BJC Hospice services. Once a referral is made, Hospice will stay in regular contact with the patient’s primary physician throughout the hospice stay.
