BJC Hospice offers grief support for children and teens in our hospice families as well as those in the community who are grieving the loss of a loved one.
The program helps families in which children or grandchildren are affected by the patient's illness. Explaining the illness to the child, helping the child cope with the changes in the family, and preparing the child for the funeral are part of the support offered. Families receive age-appropriate reading material. Support is provided through phone contact and home visits. Continued support is available after the death of the patient.
For children and teens in our hospice families as well as for those in the community, we provide the following two programs at no cost to participants:
- Stepping Stones camp for children ages 6-12, who have experienced the death of a family member or close friend
- Labyrinth retreat for teens ages 13-19, who have experienced the death of a family member or close friend
- Wings on Wheels, a mobile expressive arts therapy program that supports families, friends, schools, spiritual communities and groups impacted by illness or loss of a friend or loved one
